While this programme is school-based, we understand how important connecting pupils’ school and home lives is when thinking about children’s wellbeing. We’d love for you to have a go at some of our “Try it at Home” series with your children / the children in your care, which will reinforce the class learning at home.
Lesson 1
This week, pupils explored ways in which to process and normalise their COVID-19 experiences.
The Try it at Home Exercise for lesson one:
- At home, pupils are encouraged to create a paper boat using a blank piece of paper and based on the instructions provided in class, this can be the pupils’ Hope Boat. They should write their feelings on the inside of the boat. On the outside of the boat, they should write what keeps their boats strong and afloat, for example family, friends, hobbies, etc.
Lesson 2
This week pupils were introduced to the topics of wellbeing and resilience, and the factors that enhance or lessen our wellbeing.
The Try it at Home Exercise for lesson two:
- At home, pupils are encouraged to complete their Wellbeing Diary for the week.
Lesson 3
This week pupils explored the topic of feelings and were supported to identify their feelings within this lesson.
The Try it at Home Exercise for lesson three:
- At home, pupils are encouraged to create their own emoji-person at home, decorate the emoji, and write some words associated with that emotion into the body of the emoji character.
Lesson 4
This week pupils learned about understanding feelings, thoughts and actions, and the relationship between them.
The Try it at Home Exercise for lesson four:
- At home, pupils are encouraged to complete a match activity between thoughts and feelings. Pupils can also complete a thoughts – feelings – actions circle about a time they would like to reflect upon.
Lesson 5
This week pupils expanded on last week’s lesson on understanding feelings, thoughts and actions, and the relationship between them.
The Try it at Home Exercise for lesson five:
- At home, pupils are encouraged to think about how they might react to a situation at home and write down what their head (thinking), heart (feeling and body reaction), and action (doing) response would be.
Lesson 6
This week pupils focused on healthy friendships and relationships with others, the importance of boundaries, positive self-talk and the importance of speaking to an adult.
The Try it at Home Exercise for lesson six:
- At home, pupils are encouraged to reflect on a scenario where their friend said something mean. They should compose what they would say in the three possible outcomes to these scenarios and choose a ‘best option’.
Lesson 7
This week pupils explored their social wellbeing and managing their relationships.
The Try it at Home Exercise for lesson seven:
- At home, pupils are encouraged to respond assertively to a pupil who says something unkind, creating a mantra for themselves for empowerment.
Lesson 8
This week pupils learned about how to respond to bullying scenarios, using assertive communication, positive self-talk and asking for assistance.
The Try it at Home Exercise for lesson eight:
- At home, pupils are encouraged to draw and design their inner warrior, decorating the page with words to describe their inner warrior.
Lesson 9
This week pupils explored the online world, they discussed and examined what is real and what is fake, and learned to think and check before responding and believing a post or something that they see online.
The Try it at Home Exercise for lesson nine:
- Pupils will bring home their ‘Internet Quiz’ and complete it with you for support, if possible.

Lesson 10
This week pupils delved into their use of the internet and their experience of it, discussing and examining what personal information is fair to share on the internet and what would be better not to share on the internet.
The Try it at Home Exercise for lesson ten:
- At home, pupils are encouraged to create a ‘safe internet’ poster, designing a shield, naming and identifying the ideas that they will use to manage their online world.
